Abstract

The scientific heritage of Vladimir Georgiyevich Rudelev, a well-known scientist, the founder of Tambov linguistic school is analized. We focus on the works of the scientist, which are primarily devoted to the aspect of the language’s ancient layer – Russian and Slavonic writing. Vladimir Georgievich’s works are distinguished by the use of different methods which successfully complement each other: both etymological and comparative, and the use of methods of related disciplines, ethnography in particular. Slavic material related to graphics allowed the researcher to conduct an etymological examination on a wide background of the written signs’ names with an attempt to establish these stages of the written signs’ system with the identification of ancient, sacred meaning in addressing the concepts, traditions of the Christian faith. For an explanation of ancient Slavic traditions, the author naturally addresses different data from ancient languages to modern Russian patois; it is known that this is one of the sources of language cognition in ancient times, as well as toponymy. In the first decades of the second half of the XX century, Vladimir Georgievich became known both as a modern and perspective and a very interesting phonologist, for whom the strict organization system of units of the first language level with attention to synchrony and diachrony is important. V.G. Rudelev chose a promising opposition method for his subsequent various studies, grammatical ones in particular. He used it to make observations and discoveries in the field of Russian language parts of speech.
